bookshelf #1

I picked up this book as I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan and was intrigued to see how the author would interpret the characters. I've never read an Anthony Horowitz novel before but after reading his profile on Wikipedia realised I must have watched a programme written by him as he has written a lot for TV including Agatha Christie adaptations and Midsomer Murders.

So what is the book about? The premise of the book is that it is a case Dr Watson could not publish during Sherlock's life so he has written the details of it to be read after his death. I enjoyed the way the author captured the relationship between Sherlock and Dr Watson and thought it was faithful to the original works. The novel was quick-paced and the style reflects Horowitz's scriptwriting background. I could easily see this being adapted for TV.  The only thing I felt let the novel down was the plot. It was not as complicated as I hoped and I guessed fairly early on what the House of Silk was going to be.

Overall, The House of Silk did not match up to the original Holmes mysteries, however I still enjoyed it and it has made me want to read another Anthony Horowitz book - always a good sign!

Have you read the House of Silk or are you able to recommend any other Anthony Horowitz books?

fashion fix

I've just received my latest fashion fix in the post and love it! I spotted this dress being worn by Lisa Faulkner on This Morning last week and after some searching finally managed to track it down on the web. The only place I found it in stock was House of Fraser who only had 2 left - luckily in my size.

I can't wait to wear it, it's the perfect outfit for my birthday treat which is planned for next month - more on that in a separate post.

seven days

This week I've been mostly ...

My daughter's crawling has gone up a gear this week and nappy changes are increasingly difficult as I struggle to chase her around the room.

I've finally caught up with Homeland. I've loved this series and don't know what I'm going to do without my Damian Lewis fix. I thought the last episode was really clever and can't wait to see what they are going to do with the characters in the next series.

I sold my car (unexpectedly quickly) which has left me without transport for the week. No transport + rain have left me a little stir crazy. Looking forward to the arrival of the new car and (fingers crossed) the sun!

In my eternal quest for a cure for my frizzy hair I have finally succumbed to the hype and bought a bottle of Moroccan Oil. I don't think it is going to be the miracle cure I have been searching for but it certainly makes my hair feel nice and smells wonderful.
